Chapman told deputies he was taking his infant out for a ride in his gold Hyundai when he misjudged a turn and crashed into a tree, the arrest report said. Deputies said the baby was not properly secured in the back seat.

No one was injured in the crash.

A field sobriety test was administered because Chapman's speech was slurred and his eyes were droopy, the news release said. Chapman had difficulty following instructions and completing the tasks; he refused to submit to a blood alcohol test, the report said.

Chapman was charged with child neglect without great bodily harm, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.
