The apartment complex at Carl Brinkley Circle is next to the university's main campus in Daytona Beach.

Police said the incident started between two sisters who were arguing.

One of the sisters’ boyfriends, later identified as Shropshire, knocked on the apartment door, and when the other sister’s boyfriend opened the door, Shropshire shot him in the leg, police said.

Shropshire has a criminal history dating to 2010, including multiple charges of battery on a pregnant person, drug possession and disorderly conduct, according to Volusia County Jail records.
