Deltona man accused of using weed whacker to discipline boy

Montrell Brundidge arrested on child abuse charges

DELTONA, Fla. – A Deltona man was arrested on allegations of using a weed whacker to discipline a 6-year-old boy.

Montrell Brundidge, 25, was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated child abuse.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home, where the boy said Brundidge used the week whacker to lash his leg near the ankle.  The boy said he was being punished for not listening and accidentally hitting another child, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office said Brundidge told deputies that he realized he should not have disciplined the boy in such a manner.

Deputies took photographs of the boy's injuries, which did not require medical attention, according to deputies.

Brundidge was being held Tuesday at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond.
