Deputies: 30-year-old man fatally shot in Apopka

Deputies ask for witnesses to come forward after man was shot, killed

APOPKA, Fla. – Orange County Sheriff's deputies are asking for witnesses to come forward after they say a man was shot and killed Friday evening.

Deputies said they arrived at 1138 Old Apopka Road at 5:43 p.m. Friday because someone called to say a man had been shot.

Deputies found the victim, 30-year-old Darrion Pugh, at 1130 Clarcona Drive, and he was to Florida Hospital Apopka, where he died.

Deputies roped off two different crime scenes all throughout the evening, but released few details about the case.

Relatives rushed back to the crime scene hoping for answers after spending the night at the hospital -- only to learn that Pugh died.

Princess McMath said her grandson was never in any serious trouble.

"I don't know what it was about, I don't even know," said McMath. "He doesn't bother anybody."

The victim's father, Walter McMath said his son was shot and killed by his own friend -- a man he's known for years. He believes something went wrong between the long-time friends and it involved a woman.

Deputies said they arrested 40-year-old Antonio Orr and transported him to the Orange County jail.

"They knew each other very good," Walter McMath said. "They really didn't have any beef against each other."

Deputies ask anyone with knowledge of the shooting to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
