ORLANDO, Fla. - Two Orange County sheriff's deputies and a Florida Highway Patrol trooper were taken to a hospital Wednesday morning after being exposed to formaldehyde while investigating a crash.
A car crashed into a barrier wall outside the Green Gables Apartments in Orlando around 8 a.m., and law enforcement officials found the driver, 34-year-old Felix Lockett, who was naked, outside the vehicle behaving strangely, troopers said.
The FHP later said the driver admitted to mixing marijuana and formaldehyde.
A vial containing a substance, later identified as formaldehyde, was located in the vehicle, and the deputies and trooper were overcome by an odor. The three law enforcement officers were taken to a hospital for evaluation. Lockett was taken to Florida Hospital South with serious injuries, the FHP said.
Hazmat teams were called to the scene about an hour after the crash to investigate.
No evacuations were ordered at the apartment complex, but roads were closed in the area.
