The victim told deputies he and his partner walked back to their truck when Higdon fired shots into the woods. The victim called deputies, who came and arrested Higdon.

"I've got a gentleman shooting at me with a shotgun," the man told dispatchers in the 911 calls.

Higdon later told deputies that he had seen two men standing in his front yard, which prompted him to get his shotgun and walk to the front door with it. Higdon said he fired a shot into the air and then following the men in his car to find out who they were, according to a release.

When a deputy asked him why he didn't contact law enforcement upon first seeing the men Higdon replied, "Yeah, I guess I should have done that."

Higdon was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
