Deputy accused of shoplifting from Sanford Walmart

Robert Mosley accused of taking $1,400 worth of products

SANFORD, Fla. – A Lake County sheriff's deputy is arrested on suspicion Tuesday of shoplifting at a Seminole County Walmart.

Deputy Robert Mosley, 35, is accused of stealing $1,400 worth of merchandise from the Walmart in Sanford on Rinehart Road.

Mosley was booked into the Seminole County Jail after Sanford police said a Walmart loss prevention officer spotted him, along with Jason Pelleteri, 37, of Clermont, trying to steal a slew of goods, including ink cartridges, computer learning games and Accu-Chek test strips for diabetics.

Surveillance video showed the duo with carts full of ink cartridges and razor blades. Police said the pair then filled a bag with the items and as Mosley wawas the look-out, Pelleteri put the bag under his shirt before trying to walk out of the Garden Center.

Police say they do not have a motive, but there's plenty of evidence on YouTube showing professional shoplifters stealing large quantities of health and beauty products, even Tide laundry detergent to resell on the black market or on websites like eBay.

According to Sanford police, when Mosley was arrested, he told officers to remove the handcuffs because he's a deputy. He has been suspended with pay.

"Of course it surprises everybody who's involved because we 're held to a higher standard," said Sanford Police Sgt. David Morgenstern.

Pelleteri does not work for the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

A Lake County sheriff's spokesman did not know when Mosley was hired, but says he's worked there for several years. The sheriff's office also would not confirm whether they have launched an internal investigation.

Mosley has had trouble with the law before. He was also arrested in 2003 in Marion County.  In that case, he was charged with altering a license plate, but it is unknown how the matter was resolved.
