Diet Coke Cherry Slurpees hit 7-Eleven stores

ORLANDO, Fla. – Waistline-watchers can now slurp happy at 7-Eleven — Coke Slurpees now come in diet.

After 31 years, the top-selling diet soda brand in the nation has perfected the low-cal Slurpee, USA Today reports.

The Diet Coke Cherry Slurpee was released to 7-Eleven stores nationally on Wednesday, and will be sold exclusively at the convenience store until late May. Afterward, the low-calorie drink will be renamed the Diet Coke Cherry FROST and will be sold at other locations.

A 20-ounce Diet Coke Cherry Slurpee clocks in at 30 calories and 12 grams of carbs.

A Diet Pepsi Slurpee was featured at 7-Eleven in the mid 2000's, but it's shelf time was brief.

Despite the demand for diet and sugarless drinks, low-calorie smoothies have had a difficult time passing a taste test. It wasn't until spring 2012 that 7-Eleven launched its Slurpee Lite platform.

The first diet Slurpee sold nationally, the Slurpee Lite Fanta Sugar-Free Mango, was launched in May 2012, according to 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris. Before that, a Diet Pepsi Slurpee was featured at 7-Eleven in the mid 2000's, but its shelf time was brief.

Free coupons for a Diet Coke Cherry Slurpee are available on the 7-Eleven App, and consumers can also text "DietCoke" to 711711 for a free, small Slurpee download.
