Disney parks to stay open 24 hours on May 24

Walt Disney World celebrates start of summer

ORLANDO, Fla. - Disney World announced Thursday night that it's going to keep three of its theme parks open for 24 hours on May 24 to kick off Memorial Day weekend.

To kickoff a monstrous summer, Spaceship Earth at Epcot was turned into Mike Wizowski, the green, one-eyed monster from Monster's Inc.

Magic Kingdom will be open all night with rides available for guests and pop-in visits from characters from the movie.

Walt Disney World President George Kalogridis said Disneyland and Disney Adventure Park in California will also stay open from 6 a.m. on May 24 to 6 a.m. on May 25.

Spaceship Earth was also a buildup to the new Disney Pixar movie, Monstrous University, which comes out June 21.

Disney did something similar in 2012 to celebrate leap year.
