Doctor took photos, video up women's skirts at Groveland Publix, cops say

Cops: Dr. Akram Ismail arrested in past for DUI, murder-for-hire plot

GROVELAND, Fla. – A doctor has been charged after he allegedly took pictures or video up women's skirts at a Publix, police said.

Dr. Akram Ismail was charged with video voyeurism and was taken to the Lake County Jail. His bond was set at $5,000. Local 6 News has learned he bonded out of jail Thursday night.

Police said a customer and employees caught Ismail taking pictures or video up women's skirts at a Publix in Groveland.

But Ismail's fall from grace started long before now. Complaints to the state medical board list his troubles with the law.

In 2004, Ismail was arrested for DUI. In 2005, an air marshal arrested the doctor on a plane for refusing to put away a drink.

Then, in 2009, Ismail was arrested in a murder-for-hire plot. The doctor hired two patients to murder or maim his former business partner and blow up the rival business.

The medical board once called Ismail an "impaired physician" with a "mental condition," but he has maintained his medical license all this time. That may no longer be the case after this recent arrest.

Police are looking at Ismail's phone to see if he's taken upskirt videos before.
