Doctors warn of a spike in flu cases across Central Florida

Illness blamed for death of Brevard County woman

ORLANDO, Fla. – Doctors in Central Florida are warning of a big spike in cases of the flu, with at least one death being blamed on the illness.

Centra Care told Local 6 Tuesday night it saw 364 cases of the flu at it's 23 clinics across Central Florida last week. Just one month ago, there were just 129 cases.

Our news partners at Florida Today report a woman in her mid to late 30's died on Sunday at Holmes Regional Medical Center from the flu. Two others are reported to be on life support.

Many parts of the country are seeing increases in flu cases and experts warn the worst of the flu season may be still to come.

Doctors are warning people who show flu-like symptoms to stay home from work and school to avoid spreading the illness.
