Malnourished dogs rescued from Palm Bay home, police say

Owner accused of animal cruelty

PALM BAY, Fla. – A woman was arrested Monday after authorities found her two dogs neglected without food or water at her Brevard County home, the Palm Bay Police Department said.

One dog, Camie, was kept in Claire Louise Mimier's backyard, according to the arrest affidavit. The other dog, Amie, was kept in a screened in porch without access to the outside, police said.

Neither dog had food or water available to them.

"The dogs were malnourished and severely neglected," assistant state attorney said describing the conditions the dogs were discovered in, according to police.

Camie's ribs, spine and shoulder bones were protruding, and her eyes were covered in a yellow film, the report said. Her body was covered in untreated sores and scabs and her nails were about three inches long, according to authorities.

Police said Camie was unable to relieve herself because she was so malnourished.

The area where Amie was kept was covered in dog urine and feces, according to the affidavit. Authorities did not provide information on the dog's physical state.

Both dogs were taken to Brevard County Animal Services.

Police said an Animal Services veterinarian told them Tuesday afternoon that Camie was "responding well to treatment" and they hoped for a full recovery.

Mimier, 54, is charged with felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor animal cruelty. She faces up to five years in prison. A judge set her bond Tuesday at $2,000.
