Dog stolen from Port Orange found with wanted man, deputies say

Dog stolen from outside Culver's Restaurant as family dined inside

DELTONA, Fla. – A dog that was stolen Sunday outside a restaurant in Port Orange was found Wednesday evening with a man wanted by the U.S. marshals out of New York.

Police said the brown and white sheltie-Pomeranian mix, named Hannah, was outside a Culver's Restaurant while her Ohio family dined inside when she was taken.

"My husband was bringing out some scraps and some water for her and instead of finding her, he found the top part handle of her leash," said Selena Hunt.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said after conducting surveillance on several addresses in an investigation, the Sheriff's Office Deltona Street Crimes Unit pulled over a vehicle on a traffic stop Wednesday with the wanted man, Jesse Hoyte, 29, inside.

Officials said during the traffic stop, they found the stolen dog inside the vehicle.

Hoyte was arrested on unrelated charges, and the Hunts were contacted. They were able to confirm the dog inside the vehicle was Hannah.

It's unclear whether Hoyte was involved in the theft of the dog.
