Man beat wife, mother-in-law, Volusia deputies say
A domestic quarrel in Volusia County left a woman in critical condition and a man charged with aggravated battery and battery.
A 46-year-old man is accused of beating his wife and mother-in-law early Monday morning, leaving one of the victims hospitalized in critical condition with a brain injury, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a DeBary residence after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance at the home. When deputies arrived, they could hear a man yelling at his wife. The man refused to open the door, and deputies said they then had to force their way in.
The woman told deputies that her husband came home drunk early Monday morning and started an argument with her.
The man is accused of pushing his wife and striking her in the face with his forearms. The man also demanded that his wife call her mother and have her come over. When the victim's mother showed up, the man is accused of pushing her, throwing her onto a couch and then shoving her back to the ground, deputies said.
Deputies initially searched and couldn't find the man's mother-in-law but later spotted her collapsed on the ground in a nearby driveway. She was breathing hard and a pool of blood surrounded her head, deputies said.
She was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach and had bleeding into her brain, officials said.
The man is being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
