ORLANDO, Fla. – In an event full of orchestral and rock music, the leaders behind the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts unveiled what the plaza in front of the center will look like.
The CNL Arts Plaza will span an entire city block, stretching from S. Orange Ave. across to Magnolia Ave. It will be flanked by grassy areas with covered dining areas and a performance space.
At the unveiling event on Wednesday morning, DPAC director Kathy Ramsburger told the crowd the open air plaza will be considered as the "fourth theatre" of the center. Concerts will take place in the center almost every day of the week, she said
The area will accommodate 3,000 people for the outdoor performances, which will begin shortly after the performing arts center opens to the public in November.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said he wants to revamp the plaza in front of Orlando City Hall, which is located directly across Orange Ave. from the plaza to closely match the landscaping, look and feel, in order to create an even larger area for residents and visitors to enjoy.
