According to the FHP, Rodriguez was walking in an unknown direction sometime around 2:30 a.m. when he was struck by a gray or silver vehicle.  The driver then took off, troopers said.

Troopers said the driver of a van noticed the body hours later and went to a nearby fire station to report the discovery.  He then returned to the scene to ensure law enforcement officials arrived, according to troopers.

A Publix and a Denny's are located in the area, and an apartment complex is located across the heavily-traveled highway.
