Earthquake off Cuban coast felt in Florida Keys

KEY WEST, Fla. - An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale and centered off the northern coast of Cuba was reportedly felt in the Florida Keys.

WPLG reports the earthquake occurred at 3:57 PM about 110 miles southeast of Key West.

National Weather Service alerts said that there was no tsunami warning being issued for Key West.

According to, the tremor was felt by someone in Marathon who said they felt a "very light rumbling for approx. 10-15 seconds."

The Boca Raton Police Department even sent out a Tweet about the earthquake saying may have felt it in their area.

A 5.0 earthquake is considered moderated and can cause damage of varying severity to poorly constructed buildings.
