ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police continue to investigate after two women, including a 19-year-old who's pregnant, were touched by an intruder while they were sleeping in their beds.
Police were passing out information in the neighborhood on Monday, less than a week after the last incident. The 19-year-old was awakened July 3 by the intruder in her bedroom at the Cadence Crossing condominiums on Curry Ford Road. The other woman was groped the next night in her bed at the Bowen Place apartments near Semoran and Curry Ford roads, which is less than a mile away.
Orlando police are investigating whether the same man is responsible for both break-ins and several other burglaries in the area.
According to police, officers went to Cadence Crossing, and the teen said she was slightly awakened and felt a hand touch her on the buttocks. She said the man later touched her on the buttocks again, sliding his hand up her back, according to police. The 19-year-old said she then fully awoke, and the man waved his hand and said, "Hi, don't say nothing," according to police.
The man then left the apartment quickly, said the teen, who was not injured, according to police.
Another male was asleep inside the apartment at the time, and two others who were staying at the home were outside smoking but didn't hear or see anything suspicious, according to police.
It's believed the assailant, described as a Hispanic man about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 25 to 35 years old, entered the apartment though an unlocked door.
Meanwhile, the other woman says she was awakened in her bed by a stranger groping her after he broke into her apartment.
The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, said her husband forgot to lock the back patio door Tuesday night before he fell asleep on the couch.
She said she woke up to someone groping her and discovered a stranger next to her. She said she tried to stay calm and told him to get out of the apartment, and he left.
"Next thing you know, my wife says someone's in the house, someone was just here," the woman's husband said.
The couple said the man ran out the open door and likely jumped over a fence behind their Bowen Place apartment.
The woman believes the man is the same person Orlando police have been looking for in a string of nearby burglaries.
About two weeks ago, police released two composite sketches of the man, who usually breaks in while his victims are sleeping. In this case, however, the victim said he didn't take anything.
The man is described as Hispanic, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and in his early 20s. He has dark skin, a thin build and talks with an accent.
Police said there has been as many as seven break-ins in the area in the last three weeks. Residents say they think police should be more present.
"What is the police doing?" said Pilar Quinto. "There should be more police around you know, trying to avoid this kind of thing."
Residents say they're taking extra precaution with their safety.
"I have kids so I definitely take a little more precaution when I go to bed to make sure everything's locked up," said Ingrid Ginel.
