Ex-Longwood police chief indicted over bribery accusations

Grand jury says ex-chief employed convicted felon

LONGWOOD, Fla. – A former Longwood police chief was indicted by a federal grand jury on Friday after officials say he took a bribe to allow a convicted felon on the police force.

Thomas Jackson, who was employed with the police department from 1997 until May 28, 2010 when he retired, is accused of using his position as a chief to solicit and obtain bribes.

According to the indictment, Jackson employed the convicted felon with the Longwood Police Department in 2009 after accepting thousands of dollars.
