Family seeks justice in fatal DUI crash

Luis Gil killed in Orlando wreck

ORLANDO, Fla. – A Central Florida family is furious to find out that the man charged with drunken driving and killing their loved one was allowed to walk out of jail.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say 44-year-old Eduardo Medina ran a red light Saturday night at John Young Parkway and Deerfield Boulevard and slammed into the back of Luis Gil's car, killing him.

Local 6 spoke to Gil's 15-year-old daughter, Priscilla, who says she's heartbroken.

"There's always going to be that hole in my heart," she said. "He took away a great friend, a son, an uncle -- and it's unfair."

The crash was caught on nearby surveillance cameras and video shows a white flash as the cars collide. Medina hit several other cars in the intersection, but those drivers only suffered minor injuries.

Medina was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide, but he bonded out of jail over the weekend.

Local 6 knocked on his door to ask about the crash, but he didn't answer.

Gil's family says they want Medina to pay for his reckless behavior, but they know it won't bring Luis back.

"I'm only 15 and he's not gonna be with me on my birthdays. He's not going to walk me down the aisle," Priscilla said.  "He wasn't supposed to die like that. We're looking for justice."

Local 6 is looking into whether Medina has had any past citations or arrests.
