TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The interim president at Florida A&M University suspended the Torque Dance Team on Tuesday after an alleged off-campus hazing incident, according to a release.
FAMU received an anonymous report on Tuesday that the alleged incident occurred during the Labor Day weekend.

"The University takes very seriously any allegation of hazing and has moved quickly to shut the organization down pending the outcome of an investigation," said interim president Larry Robinson in a release. "We have zero tolerance for hazing. It‘s deplorable and will not be tolerated. It is unconscionable that a student organization would participate in any hazing activity considering what has transpired in the past year."
The suspension comes after hazing death of drum major Robert Champion in November 2011. After Champion's death FAMU suspended new membership intake for all clubs and implemented stricter procedures.
According to the Office of Student Activities, the dance team was inactive since December 2011 due to the absence of an advisor.
