Shooting victim hires lawyer to investigate Glitz nightclub

Cops not releasing suspect info in shooting that killed 2, injured 8

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police say they don't believe the fatal mass shooting outside of a nightclub was random and that they have suspects in the case.

"I assure you there is no danger to the public," said Sgt. Wanda Ford.

The shooting was reported at the Glitz Ultra Lounge on Universal Boulevard just before 1 a.m. Sunday where two people were killed and eight others were injured, according to Orlando Police Department.

Police said one person was shot and killed inside of the club and the second died at Orlando Regional Medical Center. They have not been identified.

"We are not releasing any names as of yet until the detectives have finished interviewing the witnesses and reviewing video," said Ford on Tuesday. "This takes time."

Two other people were seen at another hospital; one with a gunshot wound and the other with injuries sustained at the club, according to police.

OPD said it will also not release suspect information in the case.

"The club has very good security, with their own guards as well as three off-duty police officers. The club did everything it was supposed to do," said OPD Public Information Officer Michelle Guido, who said she did not want to address any previous incidents at the club.

On Tuesday, attorney Matt Morgan said a shooting victim asked him to investigate whether the club was negligent.

"A nightclub has the duty to insure the safety of the public in the club and when someone's shot and someone's able to bring a gun into a club and shoot multiple people, in our opinion breached that duty and there's a negligent security action that can be brought as a result of that breach," said Morgan.

Morgan would not identify the victim, only telling News 6 that his client "has concerns" and was just feet from the shooter at the time of the shooting.

Guido said on Monday that the private security at the club is responsible for basic security checks, not the extra duty officers.
