Father of slain Fiamma worker says son warned of gunman before attack

5 employees shot to death at Orange County business

ORLANDO, Fla. – As dozens gathered Wednesday night to honor the victims of the Fiamma workplace rampage, a father of one of the slain employees said his son warned him about the gunman less than two days before the mass shooting.

Rick Davis' son, Kevin Lawson, 46, was killed in Monday's shooting, along with Kevin Clark, 53; Robert Snyder, 69; Jeffrey Roberts, 57; and Brenda Montanez-Crespo, 44.

Shooter John Robert Neumann died as a result of his self-inflicted injuries.

"If you haven't reached down and hugged your kid today, do it now," Davis said at the vigil.  "You don't ever know how quick it will be."

Davis said his son would often speak of his fears about Neumann, who he was fired from Fiamma in April.

"There were rumors going around, even (as early as Saturday), that something was going to happen," Davis said.

Davis said his son and other employees knew that Neumann was disgruntled.

"They expected him to come back and do something that was crazy," Davis said.

Lawson last texted his father less than two hours before Monday's shooting, which remains under investigation.

With questions remaining about what could have been done to prevent the shooting, Davis offered a message in hopes that something similar could be prevented in the future.

"Just pay attention to what these people are telling you in the workplace," Davis said.  "All I can say is just pay attention to what's going on."
