Father shot, killed 'suicidal' son, Volusia deputies say
Father claims he feared for his life
A father shot and killed his son Tuesday night in their mobile home near Orange City, according to Volusia County sheriff's deputies.
Deputies responded to a call regarding a shooting and found 39-year-old Adam Shope dead.
William Shope, 64, told investigators his son had obtained his handgun and threatened to kill himself, but he was able to wrestle the gun away from his son.
According to William Shope, his son became angry, shaking a closed fist in an aggressive stance, said deputies, who added that William Shope then claimed he feared for his life so he fired a shot and called for help.
Thus far, no decision has been made as to whether charges will be filed against the father.
No one else was inside their home at the time of the incident.
