ORLANDO, Fla. - Federal authorities have released the crime scene around an apartment where a local man tied to a Boston Marathon bombing suspect was shot and killed by the FBI.
The FBI cleared the scene around 3 p.m. Friday, after spending three days investigating the shooting at Ibragim Todashev's apartment at the Windover Apartments near Kirkman Road in Orlando.
An agent shot and killed Todashev inside his apartment after what the FBI called a "violent confrontation." The FBI has not been clear about what sparked that shooting, or if he had a weapon, but neighbors were surprised by what they found on his front door -- a stenciled picture of what appears to be an AK-47.
Neighbors said the picture does not accurately portray the man they knew, and said they never saw him with a gun or a weapon.
"I worry about my family, but to me, the guy was okay," said Adam Soto, who lives next door and said his wife heard at least one gunshot early Wednesday morning, and saw police and federal agents swarming the apartment complex.
"Just something woke me up," said Wilma Stuart who can't believe what federal authorities say about her neighbor.
The FBI said an agent and two Massachusetts State Police officers shot Todashev during an interview about his connection to Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
Authorities believe the two men were also involved in an unsolved triple homicide two years ago in Waltham, MA.
"I'm just glad they were on top of all of it," said Stuart. "They [FBI agents] apparently knew things none of us even suspected, because they've been here and we didn't even know they were here."
In fact, none of Todashev's neighbors ever noticed agents following him, as his friends said happened for weeks.
The investigation into the shooting death could take weeks to complete, as neighbors wonder what happened right next door.
"If it turns out he was who they say he was it's surprising to me because he was real quiet," said Jason Hays.
Soto said he met Todashev over an argument about a water hose, but he said Todashev stayed cool-headed and was even apologetic -- a stark contrast to other reports that described him as having violent tendencies.
