Woman struck by Florida Highway Patrol trooper vehicle dies at hospital

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A 97-year-old woman who was hit by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper vehicle in Daytona Beach on Wednesday has died.

Maria Mccewen, of Daytona Beach, was taken to Halifax Hospital in critical condition after Trooper Gabriel Keyes struck her turning into the Walgreens parking lot off of Atlantic Avenue, according to FHP.

At about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, FHP said Mccewen died at the hospital.

FHP will conduct a homicide traffic investigation, which it said could take 60-90 days.
