FHP clocks driver at 140 mph on I-95 in Brevard County

Driver arrested after refusing to pull over

PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a 21-year-old driver after they said he led one of them on a high-speed chase up Interstate 95 that reached speeds of more than 140 mph.

Investigators said the chase happened just after 11 p.m. on Nov. 19.

According to an investigative report, Trooper Jeff Stanley said he activated his vehicle's dashboard camera when he saw a yellow Chevrolet Camaro speed onto I-95 from Fiske Boulevard.

He said he quickly clocked the car traveling 110 mph on the northbound side.

Stanley wrote in the report that he tried to catch up with the driver to pull him over, but he soon found the car was hitting speeds of 130 mph.

Before the car was pulled over off Port St. Johns Parkway, the trooper said he clocked the car traveling at more than 140 mph, and he said he saw the car weaving in and out of traffic.

He arrested the driver, Jordan Anthony Wright, and charged him with reckless driving and driving more than double the posted speed limit.

Wright had no comment on Monday night when News 6 stopped by his home.

His next court date is set for Dec. 11.

The Highway Patrol confirmed to News 6 their investigators are reviewing how their trooper handled the chase on I-95. They said they look into each pursuit to see if policy was followed.
