FHP increases reward in Orlando fatal hit-and-run crash

Rasheed Wiggins, 39, struck by 3 vehicles while crossing street

ORLANDO, Fla. – Authorities have increased the reward on Friday for information on two drivers who hit and killed a 39-year-old man in Orlando earlier this month.

Troopers said they're convinced they've found one of the cars that hit Rasheed Wiggins, 39, two weeks ago.

"At the end of the day, nothing will bring him back, but when I received the call I was happy, and it did give us some peace and some hope," said his wife, Kimberly Wiggins.

While there's not a whole lot of visible damage on the car, detectives hope the evidence they need is on the undercarriage.

"We are confident that this is the vehicle that first started the chain of events. We now need tips on the second vehicle and anybody who knows who was driving," said Kim Montes, with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Rasheed Wiggins was the husband of a former Fox 35 reporter. She told News 6 that nothing prepares someone for a loss.

"I was a TV reporter and covered those stories often and sat on couches and consoled parents and widows, and you never expect it can happen to you," Kimberly Wiggins said.

Detectives said Rasheed Wiggins was crossing the street on the intersection of Universal Boulevard and Destination Parkway when a white car clipped him and threw him into the road.

That car kept going. In the street, a second car ran him over.

Both cars didn't stop.

"I'd like to think if somebody had stopped maybe he would have been able to recover," Terris Ramson said.

Ramson worked closely with Rasheed Wiggins for three years and said anyone with information should come forward.

"Rasheed just deserves the dignity of that chapter being closed and his family there to understand exactly what happened," Ramson said.

Troopers said they found the owner of the Pruis, but they're not saying if that person was involved in the crash. For anyone who has any information, FHP is offering $7,500 for information that leads to an arrest.

Call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS if anyone has any information on the hit-and-run crash.
