ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was killed Wednesday morning in a crash on the Beachline in east Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say 58-year-old Cornel Burnette was driving a U-Haul truck with passenger Russel Lee Newby, 22, when they struck the back of a pickup truck pulling a boat on eastbound State Road 528 near State Road 520.

The U-Haul drove off the shoulder of the roadway, down an embankment where it struck several trees, troopers said. The driver of the truck, Scott Witcoski, 51, was not injured.
Both Brunette and Newby were airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where Newby later died. Burnette is still hospitalized in serious condition, troopers said.
The road was shut down by State Road 520 for a short time while the scene was cleaned up. Troopers said they are still investigating the crash.
