Volusia students to wear school uniforms

School board passes measure in 4-1 vote

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The Volusia County School Board voted 4-1 Tuesday night to adopt a uniform policy for students starting next school year.

Students will be required to wear a polo-style or button-down shirt and navy, black or khaki pants, blue jeans, shorts, a skirt or a jumper.

Other school districts with districtwide uniform policies in include: Alachua, Bay, Flagler, Madison, Miami-Dade, Osceola and Polk.

Meanwhile, the board voted unanimously to rescind a policy that requires students to pass all classes in order to participate in sports. Now, student athletes will only have to maintain a 2.0 GPA, an eligibility requirement that puts Volusia in line with other counties in the state.
