Fla. construction jobs up by 4,000

Housing starts in August show positive trend

The job market in Florida's volatile construction industry in , "experienced an increase of 4,200 jobs compared to the previous month" in September, according to the Department of Economic Opportunity.

The new data released Wednesday, also indicates more people are moving into Florida than are leaving.

" Net in-migration is up (more people moving into Florida than moving away) to an estimated 134,500 in 2012 – almost doubling 2011 in-migration of 68,000."
According to the DEO, Florida's housing and construction industry "continues to see positive improvements."

The DEO sites Increases in housing starts, median prices and job creation, along with declines in the supply of homes.

Governor Rick Scott is encouraged by the latest economic data saying "these positive indicators across the state shows that people are feeling more confident in buying or building a home."

The latest available data for housing starts shows an increase of 18.5 percent in August 2012 compared to the same period last year while median home prices were reportedly up 5.8 percent.

This continues a trend of positive indicators in the state's improving economy.
