Flagler sheriff issues warning over distraction thefts

Thieves use tactic to get into homes

BUNNELL, Fla. – The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning about distraction thefts.

The thefts are committed by thieves, usually in pairs, who distract and confuse victims in order to get into homes and possibly steal from residents, officials said.

Deputies said a Palm Coast woman was recently targeted by thieves who used distraction as a tactic.

Investigators said two men knocked on the woman's door on Bowie Place and claimed to be workers from the city's water department. Deputies said the men then looked around her home, but it's unclear if they took anything of value.

Detectives said the men left in a newer model white pickup truck. Both men were described as Hispanic males in their 20s, weighing about 140 pounds with brown hair.

Deputies are urging residents to avoid opening the door to strangers.
