Florida Gov. Rick Scott pushing for more port funding
$35 million sought for projects at Port Canaveral, elsewhere
Florida Gov. Rick Scott is going to push for nearly $35 million to make improvements to three ports.
Scott on Wednesday is expected to announce his support for the port funding at the American Association of Port Authority's annual convention.
The governor will include the funding recommendation in the budget proposals he will give to state legislators early next year.
Scott wants the money for projects at Port Canaveral, Port Everglades and the Port of Tampa.
Since coming into office Scott has been consistently pushed for additional money for the state's ports. This year's state budget has more than $275 million spent directly on seaport projects.
State transportation officials contend that the increased spending will help the state prepare for the expansion of the Panama Canal in 2015.
