Florida Neighborhood Watch issues alert over suspicious women

Group says women know Longwood residents' names

LONGWOOD, Fla. – Longwood police are hoping to get out the word out warning people in the Skylark community about a possible scam that's already hit the neighborhood.

The local neighborhood watch has reported two women going door-to-door selling educational materials for children.

But police said what's suspicious is the pair have names of women and children in the area.

It happened to the Keele family, who said the women came to their home Saturday afternoon.

"I'm glad I didn't make the purchases because what if they're using credit card information for taking out your whole bank account," said Katie Keele.

The Keele family said they found the women to be very friendly, but found what they were selling to be suspicious. When they declined to buy anything, and asked for a contact the women wouldn't give them one.

"That was a little funny to me that they didn't offer a phone or business card or anything to get in contact with them later on," said Keele.

Police said the women were spotted back in the area in a red car around 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police said they've received a couple of calls about it and because of that, they're stepping up patrols in the area.

"We are concerned about what the citizens of Longwood are concerned about, and we will respond appropriately," said Officer Kevin Tuck.

If you see anyone suspicious, you are asked to call Longwood police. Their non-emergency number is 407-339-1297, or dial 911 in an emergency.
