American Red Cross Mid-Fla. region to aid Sandy victims

Five trucks, 10 volunteers sent to New Jersey

ORLANDO, Fla. – American Red Cross deployed five trucks and 10 volunteers from the Mid-Florida Region location Tuesday.

Five Emergency Response vehicles and the volunteers will work in New Jersey to provide support to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Several Central Florida volunteers were already deployed this past weekend.

The crews are prepared to aid victims for three weeks.

"It fills a need in my soul, and I can't find anything more fulfilling, then to be able to offer hope and assistance for somebody that is in need," said Kay Ralph, a Red Cross volunteer.

Officials said 11,000 people are staying in Red Cross shelters across 16 states and they expect the numbers to grow.

American Red Cross Mid-Florida Region serves 13 counties in Florida and the volunteers being deployed to New Jersey are residents of Brevard, Volusia, Flagler, Sumter, Polk, Marion, Hernando and Citrus Counties.
