MIAMI - Police say a 6-month-old girl has died after her father apparently forgot to drop her off at day care.

Miami-Dade police say the baby was strapped in her car seat for as long as nine hours after the father dropped off his older children at Doral Academy Preparatory School Tuesday morning and then drove to work.

The Miami Herald reports the child's brother found her when his father picked him up later Tuesday afternoon. She was then rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The high temperature in Miami was 88 degrees Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the father told him it was not part of his normal routine to drop off the baby.

Police are investigating.  It's not clear if charges are pending in the case.
