Big weekend on Mars for new rover

'Curiosity' to scoop soil as early as Sunday

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. – Another milestone could happen in a matter of hours on Mars.

NASA says its newest rover, Curiosity, will use its robotic arm to scoop up some soil on the red planet this weekend, then analyze it.

The agency says the rover will take that soil sample from an area known as the Rocknest site.

Scientists want to find out what kind of chemicals, if any, are in that soil.

If all goes well, NASA says we could get the results of that sample as early as Monday.
