Drama teacher accused of having sex with student

Dennis Turner faces 126 counts of sexual battery of person under 18

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A former Edgewood Junior/Senior High School teacher is accused of having a three-year sexual relationship with a student, beginning when she was 15 years old.

Dennis Turner was charged Tuesday with 126 counts of sexual battery of a person under 18 years of age.

Turner, 56, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student while he was working at the school, said Brevard County Sheriff's Office deputies.

The investigation began last year when parents reported inappropriate behavior by Turner during a school trip to Tampa.

Brevard County Schools Communications Director Michelle Irwin says those concerns ranged from the location of the hotel to risque behavior with students, such as, "jumping on the bed with students, things you don't expect an adult to do -- even if it's being fun."

Turner resigned his position at Edgewood prior to the end of the school year.

The victim said the incidents sometimes occurred during school hours and on school property.

Turner is being held on $4,400,000 bond.
