Florida residents remember man who was killed in Libya

Local 6 partner Florida Today reports that in the wake of an attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya that left four Americans dead, a Brevard County relative of one of those killed remembers him as a man who loved to travel and cook.

"We think we're dealing with something far away and unknown, but it's touching us all very personally," Donna White, who is in her mid-60s, told Florida Today. Her sister's daughter was married to Sean Smith, a foreign service information management officer who died Tuesday.

White told Florida Today that she didn't know him well, but was aware he and his wife enjoyed trying local foods in the places they visited globally. They were living in The Hague. White said Smith, in his mid-40s, was very involved in EVE Online, a multiplayer online role-playing game.

He was an Air Force veteran who had worked as an information management officer for 10 years in posts such as Brussels, Baghdad and Pretoria. "He was a brilliant young man," she said to Florida Today.

Smith leaves behind two children: Samantha, 7, and Nathan, 5.
