OVIEDO, Fla. – A guidance counselor at Carillon Elementary School in Oviedo, has been put on paid administrative leave after allegations surfaced that she dragged a 5-year-old boy across the ground, according to school board officials.
According to a sheriff's office report, last Monday, the 5-year-old boy told school officials that counselor Dolly Cochrane, "dragged him across the ground, grabbed him by the chin, twisted him, and ultimately dropped him on the ground."
The report says the boy suffered a nickel-sized abrasion on his left forearm.
Investigators say no adults witnessed the alleged incident. One other child was interviewed, but investigators say it's not clear if she actually saw anything.
"I want to give the teacher the benefit of the doubt, but it's kind of hard to do that, when my questions are not answered," said Bobby Fishbough, a parent who says the school has not notified him about the incident.
Parent Kristina Colombaro says she's in disbelief over the allegations, saying Cochrane has had a positive influence on her children.
"She seems very calm, she doesn't seem like the type to be aggressive toward a child," she said.
School board officials said they could not comment on the incident because it is an ongoing investigation, but mentioned they are giving Cochrane time to give her side of the story.
