ORLANDO, Fla. - Ongoing road construction in Central Florida will cause changes in traffic patterns on major roads, all while making commutes for drivers a traffic nightmare.
Crews are widening roads in Volusia County, making I-4 into three lanes in both directions, which is costing $134 million. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2014.
"It's a mess right now," says frustrated driver Sherman Douglas, "It wasn't like that 5-7 years ago."
Gilbert Ortega agrees, saying "I get up earlier just to deal with all the traffic."
On 408 Eastbound, drivers can expect to approach the 417 exit earlier than before. This construction project will be completed by the end of the year.
On John Young Parkway, from Shader Road to Edgewater Drive, there is a $42 million construction project that is slated to be finished by June of 2013.
"It's going to be a bypass to Forcity Road," says Sherman,"I think it's a waste of money."
