Deputies find two children stabbed

Deputies questioning person of interest

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Indian River County deputies tell Local 6 they have a person of interest in custody in connection with the stabbing of a 12-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl.

Deputies say the boy was stabbed in the head just after 5 a.m. on Friday at a home on 14th Street Southwest. The child was transported by helicopter to Lawnwood Medical Center. Deputies did not immediately know the boy's condition.

Deputies also found a 15-year-old girl stabbed at the scene. They believe her injuries are non-life threatening.

Shortly after discovering the stabbed children, deputies in St. Lucie County located a person of interest. Indian River County deputies are heading to St. Lucie County to question 43-year-old Keith J. Underwood.

The relationship between the injured children and Underwood has not yet been released. Police said the mother of the children was also injured in the disturbance. The type of injury is unclear and her relationship with Underwood is also not yet known.
