NOKOMIS, Fla. - A southwest Florida man is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities say he killed his in-laws' miniature Dachshund.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reports that 24-year-old Stacy Glover was supposed to be watching the small dog earlier this month while its owners were out of town.
Officials say Glover initially told his in-laws their dog had run away. But when they reviewed security video, they reportedly saw footage of Glover chasing the dog, grabbing her and hitting her with his fists. The video then shows Glover taking the dog's limp body into a nearby wooded area a returning a short time later without it.
The dog's remains haven't been found.
Glover was arrested Wednesday. He faces four counts of aggravated animal cruelty and one count of tampering with evidence. He was being held on $50,000 bail. Jail records didn't list an attorney.
