Beryl bears down on Flagler County

Rough surf forces red flag warnings

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla – Tropical Storm Beryl has forced officials to issue a red flag warning at Flagler Beach.
Lifeguards said waves were measured at nearly 10 feet tall early Monday as Berryl made landfall in northeast Florida, compared to 6 feet over the weekend.

Beachgoers heeded lifeguards' warnings and stayed out of the water for the most part on Sunday afternoon.

There were a handful of surfers who went into the water against the advice of lifeguards, but no rescue attempts had to be made.

Dozens of onlookers gathered along the pier to take pictures of the waves as they crashed in.

"The kids wanted to come and enjoy the waves and see how it is," a woman said.  "I hope it doesn't get that bad."
