Florida father charged after toddler found alone; Police find guns in apartment

Luis Bianchi charged with child neglect; Cops find grenade, assault rifles in apartment

MIAMI, Fla. – Police in Miami on Thursday charged a 25-year-old man with child neglect after his daughter was found wandering alone, leading police to the family's apartment, where a grenade, several assault rifles, and an arsenal of ammunition were discovered.

Police arrested Luis Bianchi about 3:30 a.m. Thursday. He was being held on $5,000 bond.

According to an arrest affidavit, Bianchi left his daughter home alone at their apartment about 6 p.m. Wednesday. He previously spoke with her mother, who said she was coming over.

Bianchi told police he left his daughter in front of the television, pushed a couch against the door leading to the room where the weapons were, and left the apartment, according to the arrest affidavit. He also said he locked the door.

People who live at the apartment complex called police Wednesday night when they found the girl wandering alone.

The girl showed police officers where she lived with her father and girlfriend. She pointed them to the apartment, where they found the door wide open.

Inside was a cache of weapons -- including several AR-15s -- sitting on the table, but no one was home. When officers entered the apartment, the couch wasn't completely blocking the door, detectives said.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Families said they had no history with the girl.

A man who identified himself as the girl's grandfather said her fourth birthday was Thursday.
