Florida man protests by painting home as American flag

Brent Greer upset with code enforcement department

BRADENTON, Fla. – A Florida man who is fed up with the code enforcement department and its rules for his home decided to protest in a unique, patriotic way.

Brent Greer painted his home to resemble the American flag. Greer says Bradenton code enforcement has harassed him about cosmetic issues with his home. Greer says the new paint job sends a message to code enforcement workers that the look of his home is none of their business.

"It's to remind the city and all those who live here that this is America," Greer told WFLA-TV. "This is a free country. This is my home. This is not a shrine to Riverview Boulevard."

Greer also painted a sign to thank his neighbors and supporters. He plans to paint the Liberty Bell on the second floor of his home.

Greer is due at a code enforcement hearing on June 17.
