Hole in flooded street swallows SUV

Intersection floods after pickup truck hit fire hydrant in Lauderhill

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – An SUV became stuck in a large hole that opened up and swallowed about half of the vehicle.

The hole opened up Monday near the intersection of Northwest 22nd Street and 41st Avenue in Lauderhill after a white pickup truck hit a fire hydrant. The crash caused severe flooding in the intersection.

Diane Duchesne told Local 6 sister station WPLG-TV that she woke up to find her Subaru Outback underwater and in the hole.

"I couldn't believe it," she said. "I said 'Oh my God, how am I ever going to drive it out of there?'"

Police say that after the truck hit the fire hydrant, the cement gave way and Duchesne's Subaru dropped into the hole.

"Apparently, this lady came around the bend, hit the fire hydrant and went right through to the other end,"  Duchesne said, "She partied a little too much last night."

Police arrested the driver of the pickup truck, saying she was driving erratically.
