Cops: Fake Craigslist ad sends men to woman's home for sex

Woman says she was targeted in argument over lawsuit

SILVER SPRINGS, Fla. – Marion County deputies are investigating a Craigslist hoax after they say someone posted an ad asking for sex pretending to be a woman, resulting in two men coming to the home about the ad within an hour of the post.

Deputies said the woman told them she was caught in the middle of an argument about a lawsuit between her daughter's boyfriend and his former roommate.

The woman contacted authorities after the two men came to her home referencing the ad, which was posted on the Craigslist Romantic Casual Encounters section using her Facebook picture and name.

Deputies said the ad was posted at 2:46 p.m. Saturday and had been deleted by 4:21 p.m., when deputies arrived. As the deputies were at the home, two more men came to the house asking about the ad.

The ad also said those interested to not question the email address with the male name used in the ad, which was the name of the daughter's boyfriend.

Police are investigating the post as a suspicious incident.

Local 6 spoke to the victim, who said she's terrified and grateful her grandchildren weren't with her when the men started showing up at her door.

"She's lost all her privacy, some dignity, safety, she's lost a lot," said the victim's neighbor, Leigh Young.

Deputies said there was no mention of money in exchange for sex, meaning the men who responded to the ad didn't commit a crime.
