MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County detectives are investigating after an inmate was found dead in the jail medical facility.
Deputies said they arrested 48-year-old Mark Beekman Saturday afternoon after they responded to the Motor Inn at 3601 West Highway 40.

Deputies said Beekman was arrested on a battery charge and booked into the jail around 3:55 p.m.
Deputies said he was taken to the medical wing where he died around 5:13 p.m.
At this time, the cause of death is unknown and still under investigation, officials said.
