Cars burglarized while valet-parked at Central Florida luxury hotels

Deputies release video of possible suspects using stolen credit cards

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a rash of cars broken into after their owners left them with valets at two high-end resort hotels.

An OSCO spokeswoman said there have been at least four different cases so far. Each happened on the same day at the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels -- where the victims thought their cars were safely parked with the valet.

"It's hard to believe somebody would break into my truck at the JW hotel," said Minor League Baseball player Byron Buxton, who thought a 5-star hotel like the JW Marriott would be safe for his belongings.

Instead, he lost thousands of dollars of jewelry and other items from inside his locked truck parked at the high-end resort.

"That's why you stay at a 5-star hotel, and we valet our cars strictly because we have confidence that they're going to put them in a garage, under surveillance, or at least be guarded," said Kevin Blackwell, who left his car with the valet at the Ritz-Carlton overnight Dec. 12, when someone stole his wife's Louis Vuitton purse.

OCSO released security videos taken shortly after the car burglaries. Deputies said men are seen going to a local Walmart and a McDonald's to try to use credit cards stolen from valet parked cars.

Victims think only someone with access to their keys could have pulled off the crimes.

However, an OSCO spokeswoman said the valets are not suspects in these cases, but the cases are open investigations.

Messages left with the hotels' spokesperson seeking comment about the break-ins have not yet been returned.
